The USF Part Time Faculty Association
AFT/CFT Local 6590 represents part-time instructors at the University of San Francisco
(formerly the USF Faculty Association-Part Time, Local 4269a)
Welcome to USF! We hope your teaching experience here is a positive one.
The USF Part-Time Faculty Association, Local 6590 is the union representing you and your interests. The Association has been engaging adjuncts in the workings of the university since 1983.
Adjuncts at USF automatically become a member of the Part Time Faculty Association thirty (30) days after your first dues are deducted from your USF pay.** The PTFA serves as your collective bargaining agent with the university ... it's also a community where we share and learn from and with each other.
We ask members to sign a membership form to be eligible for benefits from our affiliated labor organizations, the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and the California Federation of Teachers (CFT).
We encourage you to browse our site. It has information that affects your life as an adjunct at USF. It's a good idea to become familiar with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
We'd love to hear from you: contact one of the officers or representatives listed on the Officer's Page to have a chat about the benefits, history, and objectives of the adjuncts' union, and how we can better serve your needs. And join your colleagues at an Association meeting or social event listed on the email listserv messages sent out to members.
**Note: the union does not represent adjunct faculty at the USF Law School, nor full time USF staff who are teaching a course outside of their regular duties. If you have a question about whether or not you are in our bargaining unit, ask officers [at] usfptfa.org -- or check your paystub to see if union dues have been deducted.
Article 7 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement details how adjuncts might apply to the university for "Conscientious Objector Status" within 31 days of initial employment
